Baseball Equipment it is not like it use to
be by Kenny Watkins of

Growing up as young lad youth baseball equipment
was so different. Baseball equipment was really all the same. We
didn't really have a wide choice of baseball equipment. But that has
all changed for the better.
As I grew up all I ever wanted to be was a catcher. My boyhood idol
was Hall of Famer Johnny Bench. I dreamed of having the Baseball
equipment he used as his own. One day my dad brought home a catcher's
mitt.
It was a Johnny Bench model. I was the happiest kid in the world. So I
figured I would check out today's Baseball Equipment. Catcher's mitts
are like so padded compared to my old model baseball glove. By the
time I got to play American
Legion baseball I had to change to a better glove myself.
Bet today's mitt's take that nasty sting you would get when you catch
the ball. Baseball bats have probably seen the greatest improvement.
With the aluminum bat all but replacing the wooden bat in Little
League and college baseball.
Today's bat are a lot lighter and give a lot greater response than the
old wooden bats we had. Our wooden bats would break so easy. Our
coaches would always yell at us when we would break one. With aluminum
it takes away the breakage issue.
Baseball equipment is sure better designed now. Today's athletes sure
are lucky. This could explain why kids are so much better athletes.
The right equipment can help make you a better player and
today's player has taken advantage of this in all aspects of the game.
Combine the better baseball equipment and the size of the baseball
player getting bigger and stronger and you can
see why so many baseball records are being broken now.
Today's baseball equipment is totally different
than when I play the game 25 years ago. Baseball equipment has gone
under a lot of major changes and mostly for the better. Anytime you
make the sport safer and easier to play than that a great thing.
Aluminum Bats are Today's Choice
Baseball equipment has seen many improvements from when maybe you play
as a little leaguer. For the most part the wooden bat is an
afterthought. Some teams and league still used wooden bats but for the
most part they are rare.
Today's baseball equipment bat of choice is aluminum, because of its
durability and less change of breaking one. I guess this can be a good
thing and a bad thing. The ball does tend to come off faster from an
aluminum bat.
So that only the real down side to the aluminum bats that I can see.
Baseball equipment has seen many advances too. Today's bats make even
an average player a lot better. Demarini is one company that has made
aluminum bats a household name.
Demarini baseball equipment is one of the top of line bat makers and
ask any kid and they know the name. But I also should warn you that
prices for aluminum bats are a lot more than wooden.
Baseball gloves have also improved a lot in feel and size which makes
it easier for anyone to play in today's game. And yes they still sell
my favorite baseball equipment the playback net. It's where you throw
the bat at a net and it comes back at you.
When I was a kid I played with it all the time and today's kids are no
exception. This is still one of the more popular training aids for
younger players. As you can see baseball equipment as seen lot's of
improvements and only the sky is the limit.
