Baseball Gloves: Gloves Have Come A Long Way Since Ty Cobb by Kenny Watkins of http://www.sports-gift.com Where did baseball gloves start at? That's a very interesting question which has a great story behind it. The guy who actually had the first baseball gloves was a guy name Doug Allison in 1869. It was more on the order of a batting glove and not baseball gloves. Other players made fun of him for wearing it, but soon other players were looking for something as their hands would swell up with no protection on their hands. In the 1870's a lot of players were turning to find something. Most players used a pair of golf gloves to get at least some kind of protection. Then in 1912 the Rawlings company came to the rescue with one many considered the first real baseball gloves It wasn't what today's players use but back then it was probably very well received. Through the years Rawlings made other models and the three finger glove was introduced in 1925 and had the leather web we are so familiar with today. Many innovations have come down through the years to make today's gloves possible. Rawlings for the longest time was the only glove manufacturer but now almost every major sporting goods company makes them. Some big players in Baseball gloves market are Nike, Wilson, Mizuno, and many others. Today's baseball gloves is much thicker and tons of padding to protect players hands more than ever before. Baseball gloves sure have come a long way since the use of a golf glove. Man that had to hurt using only a golf glove. Imagine if you had to catch Nolan Ryan with one. All baseball equipment has evolved over the years as better leather and metal bats became lighter and more practical to use. Some of the more popular gloves today are made by Wilson and Rawlings. You can get a good glove for about $60 or so. For more information about other sports gift products choose from one of the following sports pages:
