College, what to bring to your dorm room as a College
freshmen by Vince Falcone
The list of things to bring to college as a freshmen is huge and
for some its the first important decision as an adult. There are many
things that you must think of when getting ready for college life.
Do you have enough money for college tuition is one of the main
things that most college freshmen students worry about. Some will worry about
the academics, some worry about being away from home the list is just
endless. We have compiled a list of what to bring to college.
We want to help you get some of those college worries out of the way
so you can focus on studies. Odds are that before you get a dorm room
you will have a list of some other college students that will also be
in the dorm room with you. You might want to contact them or wait
until you get to the college and shop for dorm room stuff and save a
few bucks. Having three of everything doesn't do anybody any good and
it will fill up the dorm room also.
Here is a list of what to bring to college.
What to bring with you for your college dorm room.
- A bed and mattress check with the college for right size.
- Personal linens and towels and face cloths.
- Personal hygiene items like shampoo, razors, hair conditioner,
shaving cream, toothbrush, toothpaste, and deodorant.
- Your allergy medication is also good as you will be entering a
new environment.
- Something to carry personal items back and forth to bathrooms
and the laundry room. Laundry bag/basket.
- A surge protector/power-strip you can never be too careful.
- A laptop computer for homework and to send your parents a loving
email.
- An alarm clock so you don't miss classes.
- Pens, pencils, and other school supplies and maybe a backpack to
carry the stuff in.
- Some cool sunglasses to walk from class to class with. Ok that's
a luxury NOT!
- An iron because looking professional could help your
grades.
- A coffee pot for those late night cramming sessions.
- Pictures and posters and thumbtacks to put them up with.
(shameless plug as we sell these)
- Lamps with low watt or compact fluorescent bulbs preferred because
having a high watt light bulb will drain you.
- Telephone service is usually available but you might need to buy
a phone. When buying a phone you must check to see if a wireless one
is allowed as they may interfere with the schools wireless network.
Maybe phone cards are the way to go also.
- A small refrigerator – no larger than 3 cubic feet since dorm
rooms are small.
- A bicycle to get around campus with.
- Small storage units or milk crates for storage. Including units
for food storage.
- Warm clothes as the weather turns quickly especially in the
north. maybe an alumni sweatshirt. You can find your college on our
pages.
- Stamps and envelopes so you can write home every once in a while
(and ask for money)
With all these items you should check with your college and see if
they have a list of what to bring and what not to bring. Most colleges
have a site dedicated to freshmen students. Most colleges even have a
special page set up to help with your college financial aid. If the
school of your choice does not have a page with detailed information
on what to bring with you send them an email or look for the school
nearest to yours and pick things off their list.
Feel free to print this page or send it as an email.
