It is less than 48 hours until the Super Bowl and most football fans can’t wait for the big game. I am in New York City but I am far from being a Giants fan. Everyone is asking me which team I like to win and I can’t see the Patriots winning the game. Yes I am picking the Giants to win.

The way I see the game unfolding I see Tom Brady not having much time to make the throws he needs. I can see the Giants pass rush knocking Tom Brady down over and over again. It is hard to complete a pass when you are laying on your ass. I can see the Giants linebackers containing the New England Tight ends and the Giants secondary having no problems covering the wide receivers on the outside.

The Giants offense has been hitting on all cylinders lately and the Patriots defense well to put it mildly are old and they suck. Sorry Pats fans but they are like the 25th best defense in the NFL. There is no hiding this fact and when you add in that they play Miami and the Jets twice a year imagine how bad they really are. (Yes I hate the Jets)

I am predicting that the Giants will win the game 31 – 20 and it will never be a close game. The Patriots might score the first points of the game but after that it will be all Giants. The Giants have a better running game and I am sure Tom Coughlins plan is to keep the ball out of Tom Brady’s hands as much as possible. This will happen by running the ball over and over again.

Let’s talk about the Quarterbacks, If you were starting a team tomorrow many people would pick Tom Brady over Eli Manning. This game here Eli has a secret weapon as he has his brother Peyton who plays the Patriots often and knows their system well. Eli Manning has been on fire throughout the playoffs and I see him having no problems with the Patriots secondary. It is going to be tough for the Patriots to get to Eli.

So there you have my opinion on the big game. I would love to hear what you think will happen on Super Bowl Sunday.

Secretariat was a horse that won the 1973 triple crown but along the way he captured the hearts of millions on sports fans all over the world. On the last leg of the triple crown he broke the track record at Belmont that still stands today almost 40 years later. Although many people don’t consider horses athletes this horse changed many minds. It seemed like anything “Big Red” wanted to do he did and he won.

Secretariat was sired by Bold Ruler and SomethingRoyal. Although SomethingRoyal wasn’t a champion at all, in fact she only raced once and didn’t run well her mate Bold Ruler was a champion that won the Preakness stakes. The breeding of Bold Ruler is legendary as he was a great horse in stud.

Although this movie should have been made years ago it didn’t happen until the success of the movie Seabiscut and that is a shame. I was about 5 years old and I remember my father who liked to play the ponies had me sit in front of the television to watch the race. Since Secretariat broke the track record in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness (under dispute) my dad knew we would see history made that day.

There was about 68,000 in the stands at Belmont park and since there was only 4 horses in the race there was no show betting so people that wanted to have a winning ticket bought either a win or a place ticket as a souvenir. My dad had some of them in a picture frame for years. You can still find some tickets of Secretariat winning on EBay

I can’t wait for the movie to come out, in a way it will be great to see this great horse on the big screen. A few weeks ago a buddy of mine started a website about New York sports and I listed Secretariat as one of the best moments in New York sports history. The funny thing is I don’t know which moment to pick. The horse also won 3 stakes races as a two year old at Saratoga and Belmont and then won his first race as a three year old at Aqueduct in the Bay Shore stakes.

You can read more of the details on Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy the movie when it comes out in October.

Today was a very difficult day for me to watch sports, just because there was so many choices. It is the first week of the NASCAR chase and the Falcons play at the same time 1pm. For me it is an easy choice I watched the Falcons Cardinals game and at halftime I checked out the race.

What sports should I watch

The Falcons pretty much dominated the game but I still didn’t make the switch to watch the race. I have twitter loaded up on Hootsuite and follow a bunch of good people that are watching the race so I could switch to it if something was happening. It ended up being a pretty boring race and congrats to Clint Bowyer who won on fuel strategy and luck.

After the Falcons game I switched to NASCAR for the last 50 laps and pretty much stayed with that until the end and then I watched the Eagles game for a while until switching to watch the Redskins – Texans game which went to overtime. The Texans won on a field goal, pretty exciting finish. Glad to see Donovan McNabb doing well.

Tonight’s game between the Giants and the Colts will be on by default until the Great American Food Truck race comes on the food channel. I have been watching it all season and it is a nice break from hearing Chris Collinsworth talk about irrelevant stuff. After the truck race show it will be back to the Giants – Colts game. Don’t really care who wins the game, guess I will be rooting for the Giants. After the game it will be ESPN news to catch all of the days highlights unless they have a recap of the race on the Speed channel. What did you watch today?
