Houston Texans - Young and Ready To Win
by Kenny Watkins
The NFL returns to Houston with an expansion team. The new football
franchise is called the Texans. Their team colors are red, white and
blue. In their first game as a franchise they played the
Dallas
Cowboys in front of a prime time audience.
Surprisingly The Texans stun the Cowboys
19-10 to send shock waves through Texas. By winning became only the
second expansion team to win their opener. During the first season the
Texans struggled a lot but that is expected for a expansion team.
The Texans took David Carr out of University Of Houston as their draft
pick. David took his lumps in the first year. The Texans set a mark of
76 sacks given up. David Carr showed what he was made up as he took
every snap from scrimmage.
But the Texans did surprise a few teams in their first year. They
played hard and tough. They upset the Pittsburgh Steelers and the
New
York Giants in their first year. The Texans would finish their first
season with a 4-12 record. But they showed a lot of promise.
2003 brought renew excitement in the Texans. Just like their first
season the Texans stun the Miami Dolphins in their opener in 2003. The
Texans would also give very good games to other teams. The
Carolina
Panthers found out the Texans were for real and lost to them 14-10.
But they weren't the only team to have to fight for everything. The
Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots had to battle their way back or they would have
been another Texans victim. The Texans had a rash of injuries and they
finished the season with a 5-11 record.
So heading in to 2004 the Texans look forward to improving on their
first two seasons. With adding new players the Texans could be a team
to watch out for.

In the 2006 NFL draft they shocked all the experts by picking defense
end Mario Williams from North Carolina State instead of Heisman
trophy winner Reggie Bush.
This will help the Texans on the offensive side of the ball as the
defense will be on the field less and will be fresh.
