Major League Baseball is Still America's
Pastime by Kenny Watkins
No matter what people say or do Major League
Baseball will always be America's pastime. The kids still grow up
tossing the baseball high in the air dreaming about being a Major
League Baseball player. That will never change as long as baseball
games can be played.
Major League Baseball was started in 1920 when the to top leagues the
American and National League join forces to make Major League
Baseball. In 1922 Major League Baseball won a court case, which gave
them sole power.
This court ruling also said that they weren't interstate commerce, so
anti-trust laws didn't pertain to them. A commissioner appointed by
the baseball owners oversees baseball operations rules Major League
Baseball.
Major League baseball season runs from April to September and includes
a 162 game season. There are now 30 teams that make up both leagues.
Halfway through the season they have an all-star game.
The All-Star game has the best players who are voted on by Major
League Baseball fans. It is a showcase game for Major League Baseball
and its players. It is one of the highest rated baseball games on
television for the whole year. In October Major League baseball has
their playoffs.
The baseball teams battle it out until two are left. These two battle
for the Championship in The World Series. The first team that wins
four games are crowned champions. The World Series has seen its shared
of incredible games. Some that come to mind are Reggie Jackson's 3
homerun game and Kirk Gibson's home run that he hit when he could
barely walk.
Baseball is one of the most watched sporting events around. Major
League baseball will always be popular as the game can be shared
between parent and child. Usually the dad of the family makes the kids
a fan of whatever team he roots for. He does this by getting the kid
baseball apparel when he or she is very young. Their players are popular with
people of all walks of life. This only makes baseball to continue to
grow. That is why it will always be America's pastime.
