Nascar Sponsors: Still The Lifeblood Of
Nascar
Without sponsors where would Nascar be? Many years when Nascar got
going sponsorship was considered a luxury. Nowadays you can't make it
without a Nascar Sponsor.
Nascar Sponsors pump billions of dollars into Nascar each year. If the
sponsors left Nascar there would be no Nascar. So how did Nascar
Sponsors get so powerful? Can Nascar Sponsors fire and hire drivers or
control the teams they sponsor?
Well let's take a look at Nascar Sponsorship through the years. Early
Nascar sponsors weren't as big as they are now. Thirty to 40 years ago
it cost a lot less to run a Nascar team so Sponsorship money was
easier to come by, as the cost wasn't so much.
Back in the old days of Nascar it was commonplace to see the guy who
fuel the car at the pit stops was also the same guy pounding the
pavement looking for that sponsorship on his car. It was your earliest
form of multitasking.
As the years have gone buy like everything else costs have keep going
up. Thus in turn more Nascar Sponsors were needed, and the sponsors
sought to gain more control, which they did. Winning has become so
important drivers nowadays are hired and fired at will.
Big name Nascar Sponsors like Nextel, UPS, FedEx, Sprint and others
are spending billions and like and other investment they need a return
on their investment. It's not feasible anymore for a Nascar Sponsor to
just spend millions and not get to the winners circle.
Just like when Nascar was started, winning will ultimately be the
measuring stick if your sponsor stays or goes. I guess it's just a
fact of life in today's society. It's too bad it has come to that.
