NCAA Tournament - March Madness is what it's
all about by Kenneth Watkins
Never has an event for any sport captures
America like college basketball's March Madness does. Every college
basketball season teams all want to be part of March Madness. What
makes it hard only 64 teams are invited.
Does this mean the best 65 teams are always invited. Yes and no.
Sometimes teams do get overlooked. But for the most part the best are
always included. The format is what makes March Madness so great. Each
team knows its one loss and they go home.
So each game is full of non-stop action. Up and down the court action
makes it perfect for the fans to watch. Plenty of bosses hate March
Madness though. Work is missed and countless hours are lost, as
employees watch to see how their teams are doing. Vacations are taken
and parties are thrown to mark college basketball's event.
So how did this March Madness get its start? Actually its start goes
back to High School Basketball in Illinois in 1908. An Illinois High
School official named Henry V. Potter gave it the name in 1939. High
School Basketball in Illinois used the tournament format to crown a
champion in the different classes of High School Basketball.
In 1982 March Madness name was used by CBS sports Brent Musburger
during the tournament. IHSA of Illinois went to court to trademark the
name but lost in court and now have
the trademark March Madness for High School only. While the NCAA has
it for college.
March Madness and the NCAA brackets
go hand in hand. There is more betting in march than in any other
month.
But no matter what March Madness has become a March ritual for many.
Many fans buy a large screen television just in time for the games.
Other fans rent a large screen for the month, this is becoming more
popular every year.
There is many ways to fill out your NCAA
bracket pool but listening to the experts is the wrong way. Trust
me on that one.
