New York Giants - Pride And Passion At Work
In New Jersey
In 1925 Tim Mara paid a paltry 500 dollars for the franchise. He
decided to call them the New York Giants. Tim was a sports enthusiast who
enjoyed all kinds of sports. Red, white, and blue would be the colors
the Giants would go with. Their first season was an successful one
with a record of 8-4.
In 1927 the Giants win their first
Championship with an 11-1-1 record and only allowing 20 points all
season long. In 1934 the Giants got another chance to play for a
championship. This time against the bears. They would prevail 30-13.
Using basketball sneakers in the second half to battle the icy
conditions. It would be known as the sneaker game.
The NY Giants would continue off and on to win championships they
would win a total of 4 NFL Championships. They would make 14
appearances in Championship play. After a lot of struggles in 1981 the
Giants end their long drought of no playoff appearances when a young
Phil Simms would lead the Giants to the playoffs. I would be remiss if
I didn't mention the Giants defense.
Greatest Defensive Football Player Ever
L.T. also known as Lawrence Taylor changed the way defense was played.
He had strength speed and desire. They loved him in NY, and he loved
playing in New York. All their hard work would pay very soon as a team
they started to come together. Offense and defense and they finally
reach the Super Bowl in 1987.
Giants would easily beat the Denver Broncos 39-20 and give the Giants
their first Super Bowl win. In would be another 4 years and the Giants
would be right back at the Super Bowl 1991 and playing the
Buffalo
Bills. The game would be close with Giants wining 20-19 and Scott
Norwood would miss a last second field goal and the Giants would have
their second Super Bowl win.
Everyone didn't think the Giants would make another one. But in 2001
the Giants made another Super Bowl appearance. This time the results
were not as good as the Baltimore Ravens dominated the Giants in every
phase and easily won 34-7.
After the Super Bowl loss the Giants have struggled and are looking
towards the future with their number one draft pick Eli Manning. Lets
see how far Eli can carry them. Who knows maybe another Super Bowl
win.
Of course it is always hard to win a Super Bowl when you have a
tough division like the NFC East. The division is always tough when you
have good teams like the Dallas Cowboys,
Washington Redskins and the
Philadelphia Eagles.
