Nextel Open - How Far Do You Go To Win A
Race? by Kenny Watkins of
http://www.sports-gift.com
I figured I would sit down and catch me a few
laps of the Nextel Open, and see how my favorite driver Ricky Rudd was
doing. He was doing okay but the most excitement was the final 300
feet of the Nextel Open.
Mike Bliss looked like he was a shoe in to make it into the All-Star
race. Mike Bliss has had a up and down career and seeing him make it
into the big show would have been great. Brian Vickers was trailing
Bliss to the checkered flag when he got into the back of Bliss and
spun him into the infield grass.
Needless to say Bliss loss and Brian Vickers went on to the big show.
Bliss was not to happy with Vickers and definitely showed his
displeasure with him. Now the real question I guess is how far do you
go to win a race.
Is it win at all costs, or do you race fair and let the best car and
driver win. Apparently Brian Vickers didn't graduate from that school.
Another factor is millions of dollars are spent on sponsorship deals
and pressure to win is great.
Does that mean the end justifies the means, not in this case. My real
question is how far do we go before someone gets hurt or killed. Is
that worth winning a race over? Not in my book or most of the drivers
you talk too.
Hopefully Brian Vickers has learned a lot from this and will think
better next time he's in the same situation again. Let's hope so.
