Oakland Raiders : Just Win Baby
The Oakland Raiders franchise was and still will probably always be
the most hated. Its jersey colors are Silver and Black. The Raiders
merchandise are always one of the top sellers every year. The Raiders
name was chosen by the ownership.
1960 was the first year for the Raiders and it wasn't a good year they
finished 6-8. In 1961 after losing their first two games by a combined
score of 99-0 their coach is fired. After constant struggles, the
Raiders hired Al Davis in 1963 as General Manager. This would prove to
be a big thorn in the NFL's side.
In 1967 the Raiders put together an outstanding team and won the AFL
Championship behind quarterback Daryl Lamonica. In their first Super
Bowl the Raiders face powerhouse the Green Bay Packers and would lose
33-14.
1968 would mark the rise of a new coach for the Raiders John Madden.
He is best know now for his video game but he was a coach too and a
very good one. 1970 would mark their fourth straight divisional title.
But the Raiders wanted more than just divisional titles.
In 1976 the Raiders Al Davis would get sole ownership of the Raiders.
The Raiders would also earn their 9th Division Title in 10 years. And
make another trip to the Super Bowl. This Super Bowl would be
different as the Raiders won 32-14.
In 1978 John Madden would retire and do broadcasting of games. He's
became more popular since he's retired than anytime when he was a
coach. Most of the kids playing football on their computers have no
idea that John Madden was even a coach.
1980 marked the NFL versus All Davis when Al moves the Raiders to Los
Angeles. The NFL sues but eventually loses in court and Al moves them
to Los Angeles. This would be a first for Al Davis as his Raiders
became the first wild card team to make the Super Bowl and win it.
What made it real tough was the Commissioner had to hand Al Davis the
trophy for winning the Super Bowl. It was a very uncomfortable time
for both. 1982 marked the debut of the Los Angles Raiders.
1983 Al Davis won a judgment against the NFL for 35 million dollars
and in the same year Al Davis won another Super Bowl his third
straight by beating the Washington Redskins 38-9.
It would be a long dry spell for the Raiders. Al Davis would move back
to Oakland before he reached another Super Bowl.
In 2003 the Raiders being led by a group of veterans made another
Super Bowl only to be destroyed by The
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 48-21. The
Raiders have a new coach now and have added some new blood
like Warren Sapp from Tampa Bay and Randy Moss from the
Minnesota Vikings.
The Raiders fans are the most loyal and rabid in the NFL. They wear
anything Raiders from Jerseys to cut off shorts. And when you play the
Raiders at home, other teams hate it as its nickname is the Black
Hole.
