San Diego Chargers - Looking To Charge To The Top by Kenny Watkins of http://www.sports-gift.com

The Bolts as they are known started their first full season in 1961. Teams jersey colors are midnight blue yellow and white. They also have a lighting bolt on the side. This design has always been favorite with fans.

In their first season they would win their division. Only to lose in the championship game to the Houston Oilers. In 1962 John Hadl would take over quarterback for the Chargers. John struggled with the Chargers. He just was never able to get the team a championship. He came close in 1965 losing to the Buffalo Bills.

Chargers fans had to endure so struggling teams until 1978 when a man names Don Coryell took over the team and started to work with Dan Fouts. Before Don took over Dan Fouts had struggled all of his career. A lot of fans wanted Fouts replaced.

With Coryell running the show it was pass first run later. So the team became know as "Air Coryell". They set numerous passing records. Which many are still in the record books today. No matter how many points the Chargers would score their defense would let just as many for their opponents.

Dan Fouts set new standards when he played. Considered one of the best pure passers to ever play the game. Dan made it to the Hall Of Fame but never got a Super Bowl ring.
After Dan retire the Chargers weren't very good until 1994.

Led by quarterback Stan Humphries the Chargers start to excel. In 1994 the Chargers would play for the AFC championship in Pittsburgh. They would beat the Steelers and a trip to the Super Bowl against cross town rival the San Francisco 49ers.

The Chargers would fight hard but were no match for the 49ers and lost 49-26. Despite losing over 100,000 fans showed up when the Chargers got home to show their support. They had some of the most popular items with them. Pennants, jerseys, towels you name it. They were waving it.

The next few years would bring bad luck to the Chargers. Losing seasons and some bad draft picks have made it tough on the San Diego Chargers. But some bright spots have emerged. One of the hottest selling jerseys are the running back from the Chargers LaDainian Tomlinson. With players like this and Phillip Rivers the future is bright for the Chargers.
