Skateboarding use to be something kids did when they had nothing else to do, but it sure has changed a lot. Skateboarding has become popular for many reasons. Let's take a look at a few of those reasons that skateboarding has taken off.

Unless you have been under a rock all your life, the name Tony Hawk is probably the single most reason that skateboarding has taken off. Tony Hawk has his own line video games and is the one credited with making skateboarding popular to the masses. Xtreme games or x-games as some call them has also made skateboarding come to the forefront. People got to see what skateboarding was about and the popularly has taken off.

Kids now gravitate to skateboarding for other reasons besides the x-games and Tony Hawk. Skateboarding is a sport where almost anyone can try no matter what their age is. Young and old alike are discovering the thrill of riding a skateboard. Skateboarding had been mostly a warm weather sport and very popular out west and down south. Now with cities building skateboard parks in cold weather sites skateboarding will only become more and more popular.

So if you think skateboarding is going to just go away don't count on that. With skateboards being improved every year and with new an innovated products coming out the future for skateboarding is looking very bright indeed.

I was watching some kids doing tricks on their skateboards on ESPN the other night and I could not believe what these kids could do. With the big sports going on strike all the time the kids need an outlet and skateboarding has taken the place of baseball and football in many areas of the country.
