success by Kenny Watkins of

The Tennessee Titans were originally in
Houston and played as the Oilers from 1960-1996. Bud Adams petition
the NFL to move his team from Houston to Tennessee. Bud was losing
money in Houston and thought this would be a good move for his team.
The new teams name was chosen by feedback
from the fans. The name chosen was the Titans. The teams jersey colors
became Navy blue, Titans blue, and red. Titans merchandise became a
huge seller throughout the state of Tennessee. 1997 was the Titans
first year and they played their games at the Liberty Bowl.
The Titans won their first game against Oakland Raiders in overtime.
They had their ups and downs in their first season. They ended up
their first season with a very respectable 8-8 record. Entering the
1998 season the Titans were being led by two up and coming pros Eddie
George and quarterback Steve McNair.
Besides play on the field these two were very popular and their
jerseys were hot as well. But for all their efforts it would take the
Titans a few years to see real success. 1998 would end up another 8-8
season.
1999 would be their break out year. The Titans would dominate their
division onto a 13-3 record. The playoff run would be just as
exciting. Playing the Buffalo Bills and losing 16-14 with 16 seconds
left Frank Wycheck laterals to Kevin Dyson and he runs 75 yards for
the winning touchdown. Its known as the Music City Miracle.
The win would give the Titans the confidence they needed to move on.
After beating the Colts the Titans advance to their first Super Bowl.
The Titans face the St. Louis Rams and got behind early 17-0. But they
fought back like they did all year long.
With 7 seconds left and trailing 23-16 Kevin Dyson would be stop at
the one yard line and the Titans were denied a Super Bowl win. The
following seasons the Titans would not equal the success of reaching
another Super Bowl.
